aaaron is a producer that s been on our radar for a long time. as demonstrated by his beautiful and stripped back recent work for connected, aaaron s tracks have developed a certain maturity that has become impossible to ignore. following that signature style, the grooves on black arp, his debut ep for yoshitoshi, flow smartly from his experiences in berlin s minimal techno/tech house scene. never too abrupt or intense, black arp and keep doin it are versatile tracks for many different atmospheres and set styles. like much of his music, the percussion throughout features elements of tribal house, producing a playful energy and an extra level of accessibility. additionally, we re very excited to welcome dj t., another respected berliner who really needs no introduction, to the label for the first time. he gives the ep a rough edge with this remix of black arp. the distorted synth leads and stabs here filter in and out over a driving tech house groove, giving the release a peak-time option for those in need.

brutaz unleash their first three ­tracker coming from jules venturini, a continental expat supposedly having ties with a famous nunmetal band and a certain second­hand record shop. shameless melodies joined with a darker, churning grooves, pushed to the edge of with a gentle dose of distortion.

there’s not a lot to tell about the project glow in the dark by a certain harry miller. only perhaps we can state that with these eight tracks at hand harry miller accomplished probably the most enchanting album of the still quite young year. just when we wanted to dismiss the short-dated genre of chillwave wistfully, “future bliss” comes along with a bewitching sound hailing from an optimistic but cranky future. already the opening track “step one” with its vocal samples and its spoken word intro is futuristic soul full of affirmation of life pillowed on a synth bedding smoothed to the max up to its edges. but also the following seven tracks spread infectious positive vibes all around. the magic of glow in the dark’s tracks is energized mostly by miller’s delicate way of treating his various samples, a wary manner one usually only shows when picking up a guitar. and unlike sample based music feeding from hiphop his tracks are completely free from any sort of nostalgia, because all of his songs are designed for the future through and through. “future bliss” is one hell of a joy ride, from the first note to the last tone. the neon funk of “1987”, the broken beat of “7 billion = 1”, the synth pop of “the last dance” and in general, all of the eight tracks could be little, but great hymns on their own. but only in its entirety they sparkle this fathomless ingeniousness hidden in glow in the dark. in the end it seems to be wiser that one has as little background information as possible to be able to lose oneself fully in this “future bliss”.

matrixxman has been a dekmantel regular for a couple of years now. the san francisco producer continues to impress with a new triptych for dekmantel records. over the course of three eps (rhythm, acid, polyphony), charles mccloud duff displays his versatile and original take on house and techno. the concept of the triptych is to explore the range within the confines of a particular limitation. this second ep sector ii: acid- shows an exercise in acid. similarly, the tb-303 may conjure certain knee-jerk reactions at a glance, but acid has the potential to cover a broader palette of emotion than one might initially expect. sector ii holds three squirming 303 sequences and the classic rhythmic drum programming of arrival, bad acid and i am matrix. rites on the other hand is more subtle and fluent, swinging with hazy acid flourishes and dynamic syncopation.

polyop was formed in 2015 by producers jack driscoll, harry orso and visual artist and programmer alex kempton. since then they have been researching and developing a visual-audio experience that fuses nature and tribal culture with the machine. ceremony is the first exploration of that aesthetic, with their own take on acid house, they take the subject on a hypnotic journey through an alternate sonic-visual reality. kemp mutates ceremony into something between disco and techno, the kick and bassline thick and pulsing, whilst the percussion syncopates infectiously. the track progresses into a crescendo, which is amplified by the cavernous feel of the mix. this is certain to hypnotise 3am dancefloor-pagans into a state of worship.

in the follow up to his doornroosje ep released back in october last year - aus continue on form in 2017 and present another solo ep from label mainstay marquis hawkes. having been brought into the fold on 2015, the berlin based artist has consistently utilised aus to outlet his more soulful and stripped productions. his previous work has comprised fun, sample-heavy tracks designed with nothing but the dance floor in mind and his latest 12inch sweet temptation expands on this bringing melody, rhythm and chords to the foreground. jubilant, powerful vocal lines and stony drums are the core ingredients and their melding results in a collection of 4 tracks of varying moods and intensities. while ‘burning light’ and ‘sweet temptation’ pack a certain big-room punch, eivissa and zapper bluesky carry depth and soul in a manner that recalls a classic and cherished hawkes sound. now 5 releases deep with aus music - marquis hawkes continue to demonstrate why he is a regular and esteemed member of the roster.

baertaub’s newest release wolke welcomes you with bazalt, a very tight and sharply shaped minimal techno track designed to awake your senses one by one from head to toe with small noisey cuts and bits that show their faces at certain times to draw a sonic geometrical map. next up is a relatively darker track rather than rain which again features those alien bits and is enriched with an unexpected and grande synth melody that somehow fits perfectly with the dark mood and alienating sound of the track. b side opens with the ztrl remix of bazalt which focuses on that witty geometrical face of the track and lifts it to an upper level with slowly building beats and hypnotizing loops. the ep closes off with the title track, wolke, which follows a very interesting trajectory: a tense sounding chord line is softened by a groovy bass and dubby touches and percussive samples which in the end provides an unexpectedly feel good ending to a positively minimal ep.

unordained, brutal, and led by the rhythm of heavy bass and massive drums, disorder is an unrestrained ep, conceived in an atmosphere of distortion, edging on a certain experimental techno, equivocating between noise music and musique bruitiste. as if, here, techno were a tool of vengeance, a violent revelation with the appearance of redemption, the pieces succeed each other without any glimmer of hope appearing, and the sounds with the abrasive textures come to coil round fast and broken sequences. times are marked on each pulsation, regular and relentless. the frequencies evolve in progressions designed to install a particular tension. in -contact- some voices hidden by the filtering of a radio announce to the stoic listener and the sweaty dancers what they already foreshadowed: communication is blurred, impossible and painful. in a word, modern.

new kid felix leifur made quiet a stir with his debut release on dirt crew last year. the icelandic juggernaut comes from the striving reykjavik music scene and is working closely with the lagaffe tales guys on building a new northern house empire. since his debut hes been working hard on creating a more varied vision of his unique lo slung hip hop approach to house music. with this ep he offers six new outings that have one thing in common, very warm and moody sounds ranging from disco through jazz and hip hop. were certain that he will continue to further cement his name in the coming years and were looking forward to working with him on plenty of exciting projects. opening with eyelids, felix delivers a rough, deep and dark house cut with broken beats, warped piano loops and twisted sampling throughout. classy has a smoky jazz feeling, kept tight with clever beat programming while evolving around a catchy sax motif. our personal fav is the title track, in general, a stunning broken beat house jam, smooth and loose, with swirling keys and a funk flavoured bass. the b-side begins with midwinter, a dance floor gem on a straight up junket. its deep, forward moving and bass driven, much like his track feels like that featured on our deep love compilation in 2016. yet another highlight for us is apollo, theres not many records out there that sound quite like this, thoroughly warped and contorted, depraved strings and a hypnotising rhodes arc and strain until the bass drops and it all falls in place psychedelic beauty! he closes with mine, a dope lo fi hip hop beat that casually wraps our ears, an ice cold soul infused piece.

mary janes theory is the first vinyl-release on austrian producer demujas own label muja. featuring four cuts that reflect the many shades of house music right now. side a sees a more funkier edge to the sound whilst keeping a certain raw flavour whilst the b side goes deeper. comes hand stamped with love.

alexander palmestal was fifty procent of the electro duo pistol disco - a band that during the 00’s bustled around in the music scene of gothenburg and became known for having a certain sound and for their unpredictable and often magical live shows. the later incarnation of the band took a step away from the german 70’s influences to move towards a more club friendly universe. in 2015 the band released the 7inch goo/pool on hoga nord rekords which was their last release and now palmestal, under the name mythologen, make a release on hoga nord rekords.

lpz, hailing from paraguay and well-known in berlin thanks to several live-sets at panorama bar, present voight 2. name-giving to the 4 originals, ranging from dry-functional to deep-spacy techno, are the parts of a certain machine which interested readers/listeners might want to investigate. dj sodeyama, one of japan s premier techno artists, delivers two interpretations.

bleep. easily one of the most influential sounds to grow out of the burgeoning electronics scene of the late 80s. nowadays, easily one of the most overlooked genres. but not around njimgen. shipwrec are turning some deserved attention to those pioneering plinks and plonks for a 12- homage to the trailblazers of the sound, lfo. quadratschultz provides the material, the german artist serving a warehouse brewed, acid spiked, tribute to mark bell and gez varley. posthuman ruffle the edges that bit more with a bleary eyed 303 monster before countryman fah gives basslines a steroid injection for a thick and meaty mix. varley closes with a tribute to his former group. his lfo remix might be a solo endeavour but it has all the raw unrefined dancefloor energy that characterised the music of a certain pair of young lads from leeds cerca 1990. bleep bliss.

verträumte soundlandschaften, atmosphärische beats, aber auch direkte, cluborientierte sounds für den moment, wo die euphorie einer party alle trägt: der 23jährige dänische produzent sekuoia kreiiert hypnotisierende elektronische musik, die stets warm und organisch ist und veröffentlicht im herbst diesen jahres endlich seinen ersten lanspieler -flac-. seine heimatstadt kopenhagen spielt für sekuoia alias patrick bech-madsen dabei eine durchaus wichtige rolle: vor allem die starke house- und technoszene inspiriert ihn immer wieder. aber nicht nur diese. für kollaborationen hat sich sekuoia mit der experimentellen sängerin kill j und marc roland des poporchesters kentaur vor allem um dänische acts bemüht, die den pop in seiner musik hervorkitzeln. so wird aus -lamp in the dark- ein sinnlicher, vom r&b inspirierter song, während -brace- sich mit roland am gesang zum richtigen ohrwurm entwickelt. und wenn man von patrick hört, dass zu den musikalischen vorbildern four tet und caribou zählen, kann man bei diesem song durchaus auch noch bonobo ergänzen. aber auch die andere seite des spektrums wird von sekuoia noch weiter erforscht - die cluborientiertere.
